What day of the week is basketball played on?

Basketball is played on every day of the week with the younger ages generally playing on Saturdays.  U08s in the Mandurah Basketball competition will play on Sundays for the first time.

What age can my child start playing basketball?

It is recommended that children are at least 6 years old to play in a team.  You should only sign your child up for a team when they are at least 5 years old, if they have some basic skills first.  This is so they have a positive experience of their first competitive games.

Programs

Mandurah Basketball and Shootzone both run great term programs for younger children to help develop some basic skills and confidence.

How does a child or teenager get into a basketball team?

Most teams start when a group of friends get together and decide they want to form a team. Teams are then organised by a volunteer Team Manager who puts their hand up to be the team contact, register the team and send out communications to all players. Almost all Team Managers are parents of children playing. If you are interested in being a Team Manager and getting a group of your child's friends together to play, contact the club for assistance. We can help you every step of the way. Email furybasketballclub@outlook.com

What if my child doesn't know anyone who wants to play?

Each year the club receives inquiries from parents with individual players who do not have a team to join. If you are in this situation the club can assist by keeping your child's details on file in case a team who needs a player contacts the club.

How do I get a uniform?

The playing shirts are reversible and cost $55 to purchase.  They are blue on one side and orange/black on the other.   They must be ordered from our uniforms coordinator on the following email address uniforms.furybasketballclub@outlook.com

Can my business sponsor a set of uniforms?

Yes, the club encourages teams to find a sponsor to purchase a set of uniforms as many families are struggling financially and this helps with this extra expense. Sponsors can have their logos added to the playing shirts they sponsor and these sets of shirts can be kept in circulation for a number of years to maximise the advertising value of the donation.

What shorts and shoes are worn for basketball?

All Fury players playing in the Mandurah Basketball competition must wear Mandurah Basketball Association shorts.

Any running shoes that are non-marking can be worn.

Mouth guards are currently not compulsory and parents and spectators do not have to pay entry to games.

When do Team Nominations start?

Expressions of Interest are currently open.  Once the club receives an EOI the team Manager (organiser) will be emailed a Team Nomination Form. Players can only start to register into the team after the team is nominated and the Team Nomination fee has been paid.  Your payment will be requested once the form has been received and accepted.

EOI Form

How do I register a player?

First the player must have a team to play in. If the player does not have a team they cannot register. Each team needs to nominate a Team Manager who is the contact for the team. The Team Manager will be given a registration link  to provide to players so can register into the correct team. When a player has received the link they can go in and complete the registration and pay the registration fee. A receipt is sent confirming the player is registered into the correct team.  Registrations for individual players will start as soon as the team is registered and the team manager sends you the link.

What if our team doesn't have a coach?

Most coaches are parents or siblings of one of the players in the team. Parents who volunteer to coach are supported with access to resources, coaching courses and if required, mentoring by another more experienced coach. Teams without a coach are encouraged to organise some casual training sessions where the Team Manager can speak to all the parents and get everyone's assistance to recruit a coach. Quite often this will result in locating a relative or friend to help.

Do volunteers need Working With Children Checks?

If parents are in a volunteer role such as a Coach or Team Manager and their child is in the team then a WWC card is not required. If another relative or an unrelated adult volunteers then they need to supply their WWC card to the club committee. The club can pay the associated fee.

Volunteers under the age of 18 do not require a WWC card.

Can I volunteer to help?

Yes, the committee is busiest between July and October each year which is when extra hands are required to organise promotion days, sell uniforms, do data entry and run "come and try" activities. If you are keen to help just let us know how much time you can commit and we can find a job to suit your skills. Just fill out this form, even if it is just one small task we would be grateful https://docs.google.com/forms/...

Does the club accept KidSport Vouchers?

Yes, a voucher can be used but when applying for the voucher follow these instructions.

"Mandurah Basketball Association" must be selected as the club only if playing in the Mandurah Basketball competition.

"Halls Head Pelicans" must be selected as the club only if playing in the competition at the Murray Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
